Interior Design Intern (Santa Monica)

More infoOwner/Principal of a boutique residential interior design firm in need of a part time intern to assist with all facets of projects, from initial concept to installation. Days/times are flexible, but will require a commitment of 8-10 hours per week. This is an internship position for school credit and/or resume building experience, but could potentially become a paid, part-time job. Candidates need to be located within a close proximity to the Westside (if you are based more than 30 minutes outside of the Santa Monica area, PLEASE do NOT apply).

Overall Job Description & Responsibilities:

This is an excellent opportunity to learn every aspect of the interior design business and get "real world" experience working on lots of different types of design projects and interfacing with clients, vendors & sub-contractors. Need intern to assist owner/principal with multi-tasking on a variety of residential projects. Not looking for someone to do filing or office paperwork -- need a motivated, resourceful & astute individual who can pull fabrics or surface material samples for a project meeting, assist with installations, help with preparation for and also attend client/job site meetings, take excellent notes, photos & measurements, assist with shopping for furnishings and decorative items, follow up on product orders, schedule deliveries, pick up & deliver items to job sites, subs, vendors, assist with design scheme planning & implementation. In short, help to create unique, eclectic, colorful, interesting and personal spaces for clients.

Required qualifications:

- Must be extremely organized & very detail oriented (i.e. Type A personality)
- Possess some basic knowledge of PDC and independent showrooms & vendors
- In advanced stage or recently completed with Interior Design school program
- Some prior work/internship experience
- Hand and computer Drafting skills
- Must be adept at problem solving, taking initiative and following through on pending issues without needing to be asked
- Able to work independently, without constant supervision
- Excellent oral & written communication skills (fluent in English), possessing the ability to conduct oneself in a professional manner with clients, vendors & sub contractors
- Good driver --own reliable transportation
- Be passionate about design -- eager and motivated to get hands on experience and learn about the day-to-day operations of a small firm.
- Have a sense of humor, positive attitude, enjoy working at a fast pace and multi-tasking with a variety of different projects.
