The Chicago Teaching Fellows is a competitive program of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) that recruits, selects and trains outstanding professionals and college graduates to become teachers in the schools that need them the most. To achieve our goal of all students having access to excellent teachers, we are committed to providing Chicago's students with a new generation of educators who have the potential to be highly effective and will work hard to ensure the academic success of each of their students. We are seeking passionate and accomplished individuals from all professional and academic backgrounds who are interested in teaching high school math, high school science, bilingual education-Spanish, or special education in Chicago's most challenging and traditionally underserved schools and communities.
The need is real. On the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT), which evaluates 3rd-8th grade students' skills in reading, math, and science, 26.7% of CPS students did not meet state standards. Last year on the ACT, a national college admissions examination, CPS 11th and 12th graders' average score was a 17.2 (72% of high school students across the country scored higher). Even more unacceptable, only 57% of Chicago Public School seniors graduated this past spring. Are you ready to become part of the solution and be on the front lines of addressing education injustice?
