As a database architect at Age of Learning, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, deploying and maintaining high-traffic, high-availability database systems. You'll ensure our data integrity and continuity, and provide easy access to large data sets.

Job Duties:

-Determine database structural requirements by analyzing operations, applications, and programming; reviewing objectives with analysts; evaluating current systems

-Develop database solutions by designing proposed systems; defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications

-Install database systems by developing flowcharts; applying optimum access techniques; coordinating installation actions; documents actions

-Maintain database performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems; calculating optimum values for parameters; evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases; completing maintenance

-Provide training for developers

-Provide systems for accessing and analyzing data

-Provide database support by coding utilities, responding to user questions, and resolving problems

-Accomplish information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed

-Maintain familiarity with latest technologies

-Participate in disaster recovery planning

The candidate will be tasked with server upgrades, performance monitoring/tuning, testing and change deployment. The ability to think quickly and solve complex technical problems is essential to this role.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

? Deep knowledge of SQL in any or all of the major RDBMSs - Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2 etc. (preferably MySQL).
? Extensive experience in high transaction rate environment tuning and designing databases
? Data modeling expertise (Erwin or similar).
? Experience in designing and writing stored procedures in an N-tier development environment.
? Experience with Database replication, migration, backup and recovery.
? MySQL cluster setup and tuning, MySQL query performance tuning, and MySQL system/network performance tuning (for example, disk I/O, etc).
? MySQL Security - access privilege and user account management.
? Java experience a plus

Job Description

Experience in complex SQL query construction (using MySQL, MSSQL, etc.)
Develops a clear and comprehensive understanding of company's relational data structures and their relation to company's core applications, and understands how these applications interact with the data stores, both from technical and business perspectives.
Critically evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from the underlying true needs.
Collect and parse system wide log files for specific reporting assignments.
Communicates and collaborates with management to analyze information needs and functional requirements and delivers results as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Strong business, communication, analytical and problem solving skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into applications with relevant and functional results.
Has the ability to identify abnormal data patterns, and interpret their effect on business operations.
Knowledge typically gained through programming/analysis experience in a relational database application environment.
Knowledge typically gained through application log traversing.
Ability to deliver intuitive reports.
Strong knowledge of excel and other classic reporting tools.
Ability to perform the required physical elements of the job.
