CCEO YouthBuild, a program of the Century Center for Economic Opportunity, serves the Greater Los Angeles area by fostering economic development through innovative employment training programs and the development of affordable housing through the YouthBuild Education and Construction Training Program. CCEO YouthBuild is an innovative program designed to provide "at risk" youth aged 16-24 that reside in the Los Angeles area with preparation leading to a High School diploma, Life Skills and Leadership Development training concurrently with vocational and hands-on training in construction trades. Program participants assist in building housing units for low and moderate-income families and be involved in providing services to the community through special projects. Upon completion of approximately nine months of training, members will be provided either assistance with job placement or continuation in post secondary education.

Position Objective:
Under the direction of the Program Director and the AmeiCorps Project Coordinator, the Postsecondary Transition Services AMC Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the Healthy Relationships, Love Notes, and Money Habitudes programs. Over the course of their term, the PTSAA will assist the Program Director in setting the course for creating a program culture where all YouthBuild members will be prepared to succeed in postsecondary/career pathways upon graduation.
Duties:
? Assist in researching, designing, supplementing, and delivering content (including lesson plans) for the following curriculum: Love Notes, Money Habitudes, and Healthy Relationships.
? Assist in providing small group facilitation of courses in the above programs.
? Assist counseling staff with presentation of materials for the above curriculum.
? Assist in developing/implementing the incentives systems for the above curriculum.
? Investigate and form collaborations with partner organizations to create and oversee implementation of ongoing program activities which includes but is not limited to collaborating with agencies on community events and being in attendance at key events.
? Develop strategies for YouthBuild members and alumni to transition out of the program, including assistance with post-program job development, training, and educational opportunities (i.e. completing applications).
? Coordinate with YouthBuild staff to provide community and financial resources for YouthBuild members.
? Coordinate with YouthBuild staff to ensure regular facilitation of follow-up activities with current and former YouthBuild Members.
? Assist in developing and managing a college and career center that houses a resource library on education and training programs, internships, and other postsecondary opportunities.
? Assist in the development of proposals to increase program funding and sustainability.
? Participate in community service activities and attend staff retreats as required.
? Perform any other reasonable function as directed by the Program Director to the extent that it is not in conflict with the primary position responsibilities or restricted activities as defined in the AmeriCorps contract.
Requirements:
All applicants are expected to:
? Make a commitment to completing 10 months (1700 hours) in the program.
? Be at least 21 years of age.
? Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
? Have at least a B.S. degree, preferably in a related field (i.e. emphasis on counseling, social work, psychology, education ore a related field)
? Work well with minimal supervision.
? Work well both in group situations and alone.
? Be interested in improving the lives of at-risk youth and adults in some of the poorest communities of California.
? Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, and comfort in working with teens and young adults from at-risk communities
? Have a basic knowledge of career and occupational resources, trends, and opportunities.
? Be adept at using standard Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point)
? Be flexible, patience, tolerance and willingness to learn new related skills.
? Experience in management and motivation of volunteers a plus.
? A basic understanding of CCEO YouthBuild and commitment to the mission of the organization
? Demonstrate strong organizational, writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
? Attend and participate in all AmeriCorps and CCEO YouthBuild activities
? Attend and participate in once monthly Saturday Community Service activities
Service week (days/hours):
Monday -- Friday, 7:30 am -- 4:00 pm and one Saturday of each month.
Compensation and benefits:
This AmeriCorps position offers the following benefits for completing a 10 - 12 month period of volunteer service:
1) $1,200/mo. living allowance
2) $5,550 Education award upon completion of 1,700 hours of service

Physical Requirements to Perform Duties
Basic office and classroom activity, no extraordinary physical effort is required.
