Sr. Systems Administrator - NBC Universal (Los Angeles, CA USA 90036)
DESCRIPTION:
The UNIX Systems Engineer will work closely with our web producers and software developers to help develop and support our online environments. This is also supporting the DAISY (Digital Asset Management System) and broadcast production systems. Develop scripts and tools to improve administration and support of UNIX-based systems Maintain documentation of systems architecture, troubleshooting and support guidelines Build deployment processes, environment roadmaps, and systems design Perform systems administration/engineering, security hardening, performance/availability/capacity modeling and management, monitoring design and refinement, as well as researching solutions to existing problems and coming up with new ideas/scripts for automation
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: 6-9 years experience with UNIX (Linux, Solaris, BSD) Experience with VM technologies (VMWare/Xen) required Amazon cloud services experience a must Experience with monitoring solutions (Nagios, Xymon, Cacti) required Must have experience with JBoss, Apache, Tomcat Ability to source compile and make RPM packages required Must have solid experience with networking, VLANs and firewalls Networking knowledge (routing, switching, load balancing) required Demonstrated knowledge of SANs and shared storage Demonstrated knowledge of Web-services, Service Oriented Architectures, SMTP and legitimate mail sending Experience designing and deploying new systems in an online environment Demonstrated knowledge of TCP/IP and computer networking Must be familiar with widely-deployed Internet protocols and standards such as DNS, FTP, SSH, HTML, XML, JDBC, SNMP Familiarity with Tivoli Storage Manager for backup preferred Understanding of clustered file systems preferred Web engineering experience in an online media company or similar fast paced environment preferred Ability to be on call 24/7 Strong general troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Good communication skills, both verbal and written Team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to self-manage time and resources as well as work in a team environment Must be able to work independently and under pressure

Linux Systems Administrator (Virginia Beach, VA)

Responsibilities:
Solve complex technical issues involving multiple technology stacks
Serve as escalation point for complex issues
Configure and deploy new applications and services
Deploy systems utilizing best practices for security and maintainability
Create technical documentation for operational use
Ability to identify hardware and software problems and coordinate system maintenance activities
Operate and tune MySQL or other major RDMS
Set-up virtual hosting with Apache
As needed work in the data center to assist with provisioning and tracking of equipment
Serve in a mentorship role to junior system administrators
The ideal candidates will have the following:
3-5 years of hands-on Linux exposure in a production environment
Two year degree or equivalent experience required
Proficiency in at least one scripting language
Thorough understanding of the LAMP stack
Knowledge of cPanel/Web Host Manager platform
Exceptional network management and troubleshooting skills
Experience serving in a team environment with on-call responsibilities
Experience using and extending monitoring systems like Nagios

Responsibilities include:
- Provide "help desk" service to staff and external customers
- Monitor databases for data integrity (e.g. identifying problems with the data)
- Maintaining data flow for several databases, such as importing data files and converting data to new formats
- Designing and running custom and standard reports

Experience needed:

- This role will be based 100% at a single client location who has 20 branches and venues throughout LA as well as a few remote sites.
- Coordinating vendors for support, onsite maintenance, and installations.
- Perform preventative maintenance on servers and workstations which includes antivirus, windows updates, memory, and storage checks.
- Remote support of desktop and application related issues.
- Assist team on projects that include network installs, wireless implementations, and new builds.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years in the Information Technology field.
- Preferably experience in the hospitality industry.
- Field support and remote support experience required.
- Handles themselves in a professional manner as this will be a customer facing role.
- Must be willing to drive to client sites. Mileage expense will be reimbursed.
